Wilmington native Alex Grant originally started The Rebel as a catering business in 2006. Within a short period of time, the catering business became a huge success. With dreams of expansion, his aspirations quickly evolved into the creation of a full service restaurant. The location was chosen because of the additions and renovations taking place in downtown Wilmington’s Riverfront and Ships Tavern/LOMA Districts. When asked why he chose to name the restaurant the Rebel, Grant said “A Rebel represents a product of deterrence, because its going against what most people advise you not to do, so therefore I named my restaurant the Rebel”. The Rebel continues to specialize in Southern and Caribbean cuisine along with various specials, while maintaining its original recipes and quality. “I am proud and honored to have brought The Rebel to my hometown of Wilmington.
